A 400A industrial open-head orbital TIG welder for heavy-wall pipe - OD 20mm to OD 325mm, up to 13mm wall.

The FYID-Feiyide FXT40 Pro is a 400A industrial open-head orbital GTAW (TIG) welding system designed for all-position girth welding on large-diameter carbon steel, stainless steel, and titanium alloy pipe. The system pairs the FXT40 Pro digital power source with the K-Series open-head orbital welding clamps (K76, K114, K168, K219, K273, K325), covering pipe outer diameters from OD 20 mm to OD 325 mm and wall thicknesses from 2 mm to 13 mm.

Unlike enclosed welding heads that require pipe-end access, the K-Series open-head clamp mounts externally onto the pipe at any accessible point along its length - making it the correct tool for in-situ manifold joints, skid-mounted piping, shipboard piping systems, and any application where both pipe ends are not free. The welding head rotates around the stationary pipe, completing a full 360 deg girth weld with programmable parameter control at every position: flat (1G/1F), horizontal (2G), vertical (3G), and overhead (4G).

The FXT40 Pro is controlled by a Siemens S7-200 SMART V3.0 PLC - an industrial-grade control platform specified for critical environments including nuclear auxiliary piping, shipbuilding, and high-pressure petrochemical pipelines where arc stability under variable grid conditions is a fabrication requirement, not a preference.

Six modular K-series heads on one FXT40 Pro power source

One FXT40 Pro power source drives all six K-Series modular quick-change heads. A pipe fabrication shop running mixed pipe sizes - from 1" instrumentation tubing through 12" process piping - operates the full diameter range from a single power source, switching heads in under 10 minutes between jobs. The K76 / K114 / K168 / K219 / K273 / K325 heads share the same digital interface and 50-group recipe library, so the operator workflow is identical regardless of pipe size.

Why a separate power source from FXT20

FXT40 Pro and FXT20 are two distinct industrial platforms. FXT20 (4.5 kVA, single-phase 220V, 5-200A) is engineered for thin-wall enclosed orbital work - C-series closed-chamber heads on high-purity tube. FXT40 Pro (21.5 kVA, three-phase 380V, 5-400A, with filler wire feeder) is engineered for industrial heavy-wall pipe - K-series open-head clamps on production process and pipeline piping. They are deliberately different machines for different welding regimes; trying to run K-series on FXT20 would be like trying to run a refinery pipeline weld off a thin-wall cleanroom power supply.

What K-series head models are available, and what pipe diameters do they cover?

Six K-series open-head clamps are available: K76, K114, K168, K219, K273, and K325. They cover OD 20mm to OD 325mm pipe OD (3/4" to 12.8") at 2-13 mm wall thickness. All six share the same FXT40 Pro power source and 50-group recipe library, switchable in under 10 minutes. For pipes >=219 mm requiring track-type assembly (long-distance pipeline construction), the K600 track-type orbital welder is the recommended companion - also on the FXT40 Pro platform.

Can the FXT40 Pro weld with filler wire?

Yes. The FXT40 Pro has an integrated wire feeder accepting spools up to 15 kg with wire diameter 0.8 / 1.0 / 1.2 mm. This distinguishes it from the FXT20 (no filler wire) which is for thin-wall autogenous welds on enclosed C-series heads. Why is the FXT40 Pro three-phase 380V instead of single-phase 220V like the FXT20?

Output capacity. The FXT40 Pro delivers 5-400A DC at 21.5 kVA - required for welding 13mm-wall carbon steel pipe in all positions. The FXT20 single-phase 220V architecture is engineered for thin-wall (0.5-3.0mm) C-series enclosed work where 5-200A at 4.5 kVA is sufficient. Industrial pipeline fabrication shops typically have three-phase 380V available; for field locations, generators sized for 400A welding equipment are standard.

Does the FXT40 Pro support ASME Section IX procedure qualification?

Yes. The Siemens S7-200 SMART V3.0 PLC and configured per-weld data recording (current, voltage, speed, wire feed speed, travel angle, welding time) produce the parameter record required for ASME Section IX WPS / PQR documentation. For nuclear auxiliary piping qualified to NQA-1, the configured weld records can support project traceability review when required by the QA plan. This means a pipeline contractor's fleet can cover the full range from instrumentation tubing through transmission pipeline with a single power source and recipe library, just switching heads and tracks as the pipe diameter dictates.

When K-series is the fit

Industrial pipe and field girth welds

Use K-series open-head clamps when the pipe is already installed, both pipe ends are not free, filler wire is required, or the work is industrial pipe rather than high-purity enclosed tube. FXT40 Pro supports OD 20-325 mm K-series work at 2-13 mm wall per KB.

Head selection

K76 through K325, plus K600 context

K76, K114, K168, K219, K273, and K325 share the FXT40 Pro platform. For pipe projects at or above OD 219 mm that need track-type movement, K600 is the companion track-type head using the same FXT40 Pro power-source family.

For autogenous thin-wall high-purity tube, choose FXT20 with C-series closed-chamber heads. K-series is for open-frame industrial pipe; C-series is for enclosed thin-wall tube and inner-bead oxidation-control targets.
